The "Dream Children's Home" is very dear to the hearts of the Kenya Safari Acrobats. Returning to Kenya, it was very difficult to see our children sleeping on the streets, sift through garbage for scraps, and above all, live without someone to love and provide for them. Since witnessing this the Kenya Safari Acrobats have made it their mission to save the children, and while one may think it impossible to save them all, it is not stopping us from at least trying. Partnered Rachel Gichia, who started off as a lady just wanting to help children left on her doorstep, has turned into a lady taking in more than 38 once misfortunate children.
In an effort to help aid the Dream Children's Home, we urge pleased audience members to buy some of our merchandise that we sell before and after our shows, where all of the proceeds will be forwarded to Mrs. Rachel Gichia and her wonderful program. Below is a list of things we wish to achieve in the forthcoming years.
1. Build an actual orphanage.
2. Build bunk beds for the kids
3. Provide tables and chairs for the kids to eat
4. Provide school fees and uniforms
5. Provide food
6. Provide medical attention
7. Provide clean drinking water.
The problem of homelessness, poverty and street children faces every country and should concern us all. The United Nations estimates that their are over 150 million street children world wide. Whether the streets of Rio de Janeiro, Mumbai, Free Town, Bucharest or New York, the problems children face on the street are much the same. Hunger and safety are endless concerns, while drug and alcohol abuse run rampant. Street children are highly susceptible to become victims of abuse or human trafficking. Therefore street children run high risk of drug and alcohol abuse, contacting sexually transmitted diseases, including HIV/AIDS.
We are also working to solve the water problems in Kajiado and the Masai lands for these children, for water is a vital source of life, and it's something that the children are in dire need of most.
